The Church
THE CHURCH
Come visit a church that's willing to take a few risks to help people reach new heights in their relationship with God. At Light of Christ, you'll find a praise band instead of a choir, video projectors instead of hymnals, and messages that deal with real life issues. Come and see how people's lives are changed through Jesus.
Services are held Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00 AM. Enjoy a cup of coffee at our Hospitality Center which opens 30 minutes before each service. Sunday morning classes are held for children through the fifth grade. Small groups, known as Grow Groups at the Light of Christ, for youth and adults meet at various times throughtout the week.
HISTORY
Dedicated as a mission church in 1999, Light of Christ has met in a park, two schools, and the YMCA. We built and moved into our first permanent worship space debt-free in April 2010.
THE COMMUNITY
Light of Christ's commitment to missions begins with at least 10 percent of all financial donations going directly to mission ministries in the community and arround the world. We spent 15 percent of total funds on missions in 2010.
Some of the key missions programs included helping the homeless in Charlotte through Room in the Inn, building homes through Habitat for Humanity, supporting at-risk children in west Charlotte through the Parkview Community Foundation, and supporting a Christian church and school in Bayonnais, Haiti.

Kyle
Kyle Thompson Lead Pastor
What was the make/model of your first car? Rust orange Pontiac Sunbird (yikes)
What are you doing differently as a result of the United Methodist Church's "missional renaissance"? Reminding myself that every encounter is an opportunity to share Jesus through my actions and words.
Who performed in the last concert you attended? U2, still rocking strong!
What was your childhood nickname? When my younger brother Matt was learning to talk, he called me Aya.
Describe something funny that happened to you last summer. I wrestled with a collapsible tent as a massive storm approached the beach. The tent won, I got soaked, and I scared away a retired couple sitting near my family on the beach. So much for my answer to question 2.
If you could be anyone for one day, who would you be? Steve Jobs. That guy makes some cool stuff.

Mission & Vision
LIGHT OF CHRIST MISSION
COME and see the love of Jesus.
GROW as disciples.
GO and serve a hurting world.
LIGHT OF CHRIST VISION STATEMENT
To be on fire with the Holy Spirit, and actively seek and lead people into a loving personal relationship with Jesus Christ to serve for God's glory.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth."
Acts 1:8
Our Beliefs
WHAT WE BELIEVE
God's nature is love. God loves all people, no matter what they have done in the past.
God is one. We experience God in three "persons": Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit.
We are created in God's image. God wants to be in relationship with us. God has a purpose for each of us.
We separate ourselves from God by not living as God intends. Our opposition to God's intention is called sin.
Sin prevents us from being in a right relationship with God. Another consequence of sin is death.
God reaches out to us through Jesus to bring us back into a right relationship. Jesus defeated sin and death by dying on a cross and coming back to life on the third day afterward. Jesus's death and resurrection make a right relationship with God possible, along with eternal life in Heaven. God's reaching out to us is the free gift of
grace
. We cant do anything to earn grace; we only have to accept it.
God restores us into a right relationship when we believe (have faith) that Jesus is God, that He died for us on the cross, and that He came back to life. This faith in God's grace simultaneously includes us confessing our sin to God, and turning away (repenting) from our disobedient ways back to God. God forgives the sin that we repent from and confess.
God is with us in our day-to-day lives through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is there to guide, to comfort, and to help us. We have access to the Holy Spirit through prayer (talking to God).
The Bible is God's word that guides us. It was written by people who were inspired by God.
God calls us to live out our faith together in the Church. We strive to serve and to love people as Jesus showed us.
Evil is real. It exists as a result of the misuse of free will. Ultimately, God will defeat all evil. God can and does bring good out of evil.
